The Prasar Bharati Archives are a valuable collection of India's cultural heritage, featuring memorable performances by renowned artists and rare media assets from significant events such as Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations, as well as broadcasts by leaders. This treasure trove includes sound recordings and audiovisual footage across various genres, including music, dance, drama, interviews, and more.
Archival activities began with the Radio Transcription Service on April 3, 1954, focusing on speeches by Indian dignitaries. Although informal archiving existed, this service formalized the process. Doordarshan Archives, established in 2004, aimed to digitize and preserve audiovisual content. In 2018, the separate archival efforts of AIR and Doordarshan were unified under "Prasar Bharati Archives.
